MANLY ANTIQUE CENTRE
FOR 'MISS FRESHWATER'
We think this is a very rare survivor of Australian life saving history.
Occasionally you see something referring to men and lifesaving
but we have never seen anything that includes our fab Aussie
girl life savers albeit it was probably a beauty contest rather
than for the best female lifesaver.
Freshwater beach belongs to what used to be called Harbord
for most of the 20th century but is now Freshwater again.
We have to presume this competition is associated with
the Freshwater Life Saving Club.
The font style and bathing costume of the young lady
would date this badge to the 1950s.
It is only small measuring just 22mm across.
It is not in pristine condition on the front as
can be seen in the photos but it is such a fabulous & rare
piece of Northern beaches social history we think
it well deserves the price tag we have attached to it.
