MANLY ANTIQUE CENTRE

MAGNIFICENT 19TH CENTURY
LANCASHIRE DRESSER

This is such a high quality version of a Lancashire dresser it
must have been made to order for someone of means.
Normally they are simple country pieces made entirely from pine
but this gorgeous thing has a pine carcass which has been fronted
with expensive flame mahogany veneers.
The colour has naturally faded down to this rich warm honey colour
over the last 160 years - a patina and colour that cannot be reproduced
even by the cleverest faker.

It is signed under both side drawers by the maker:-
Ogden Halliwell - Drake Street, Rochdale (Lancashire).
I tried to find out about Mr Halliwell on the internet but had no luck.
What I can tell you was he was a master craftsman as this piece
is more akin to the skill level of a piece from Gillows of Lancaster
than a country made piece by a local joiner.
(we've just sold a piece by Gillows so I had the two to compare with each other)
Perhaps Ogden Halliwell did his apprenticeship with Gillows, who knows.

The dresser measures 1800mm wide by 600mm deep by 1300mm high.
Condition is excellent and I have to presume it has been
re-polished at some recent point in time.
Overall a fabulous piece of English made quality antique furniture.

SORRY,
I'VE SOLD!
