MANLY ANTIQUE CENTRE

EARLY VICTORIAN
GILLOWS of LANCASTER
MARBLE TOP WASHSTAND

SORRY, I'VE SOLD!

The lucky antique dealers in the UK might get Gillows of Lancaster
furniture on a regular basis but I can assure you it is not a
common event for us poor retches in the Antipodes.

This marble topped wash stand's design is elegance personified.
Simple clean lines and tell-tale high quality finishes including
Carrara marble top, turned stretcher base and outer finials, shaped
base supports, bun feet and exquisite flame mahogany veneers
to the two drawer fronts.

The drawers are dovetailed of course and the right drawer is stamped
with Gillows Lancaster L668 (I think that's the number - it's hard to read).
The construction of the back is also impressive with huge dovetails
joining the rear supporting board with the two side boards.

The condition overall is excellent with only a few minor
marks to the marble top.

It is an early Victorian model dating to around 1840 predating
the later ornate high Victorian furniture of the 1870s and 80s.

It's 114cm wide x 72cm high and 65cm deep

Just an exceptional piece of quality English furniture.
