EARLY NIPPON WARE
BEADED EWERS
c.1890

Gigantic pair of early Nippon ware ewers, pitchers, jugs, vases
whatever you would like to call them
The applied decoration is referred to as beaded or jewelled pottery.
The flowers are hand painted.
Made by a company now known as Noritake but were then known as Nippon.

These babies are huge, measuring 41cm tall and approx 19cm across.
One has a chip on its handle's curly-cue section as shown in photos.
This same ewer has one, maybe two of its beaded jewels missing
and two areas that there probably should have been a
'bead' but the decorator missed it.
Both examples of this are shown in the photos above.

The other one has about 3cm of blue line slip decoration missing from
top of the handle but I couldn't find anything else missing anywhere.

As they are not absolutely perfect they must be sold "as found".
They date to pre 1891 as they are unmarked and from what I have
researched only had paper labels up to this time.

This incredible, huge, highly decorated pair of ewers would have to be
a welcome addition to any collectors Nippon ware colllection.

$495.00 pair
