MANLY ANTIQUE CENTRE

FRENCH BUREAU DE DAME
LADIES DESK

Glorious French 19th century Bureau de Dame
or for us ordinary folk its a small ladies desk.

It is a stunning piece of antique furniture
in incredibly good condition for its age.
The marquetry inlay features birds and foliage
that has been ebonised to contrast with the surrounding
Kingwood veneers.
There's a small section of the inlays on the very
top section that is not 'perfect' but looks like something
may have been dropped on it denting it a little -its not drastic
or overly obvious but mentioning for accuracy of description.

It opens with the original key to reveal the desk area
fitted with small internal drawers and another sliding
panel below them that reveals another hidden area.
The area when open is well and truly big enough to sit a laptop
on but at the moment the front flap drops down lower than the
body of the desk so it's not a completely vertical surface.
This could be adjusted with the addition of a chain or
folding metal arm to keep it level when you open it if desired.
This is something that happens to these dropfront desks that
don't have underlying support arms to pull out to support the flap.
As mentioned a chain support is often added later to fix this.

It is a lovely small piece measuring 65cm wide, 45cm deep
and 92cm to the top of the brass gallery.
