French Silver-maker Christofle is an enduring symbol of luxury,
elegance and prestige in the art of the silversmith.
This auction is for the Christofle silverplate pierced or lace sitting bird.
We have four pieces currently to choose from as per last photo.
Christofle’s “Lumiere D’argent Collection” comprises of many collectible animals
each intricately pierced to look like silverplated lace and eyes made of black onyx beads.
Manufactured in France, “Lustrous Silver Collection” pieces are coated with protective
varnish that helps to slow down the oxidization process so your silver pieces remains
shiny for a longer period of time.
There is a card as well in the box which states:
“This piece from the Christofle workshops in Paris is manufactured according to the
traditional techniques of French silversmiths.
A varnish protects it against tarnishing and eliminates the need for polishing.”
This lovely sitting or nestling bird is fully hallmarked Christofle with Christofle hallmarks
underneath which I tried to photograph but I don't have the right camera with me.
He has VERY LITTLE tarnish to his patina.
The black areas you can see in some of the photos are reflections from the
flash off the angles of the shiny surface of each creature.
The photos for this one have even more black patches than the others
so I've taken quite of few photos so you can compare one to
another and see that the patches move when the angle changes (I hope).
If I was to rate him out of 10 (ie 10 being new) I would rate this one at 8.5/10.
He measures approx. 5.5cm high, 4.7cm wide and 7cm front to back.
