VICTORIAN ENCASED CRANBERRY GLASS OPEN SALTS
ON SILVER WIRE STANDS

This delightful pair of antique Victorian open salts are as pretty as a picture.
They are made from white milk glass or opalescent glass overlaid with cranberry glass
with pretty fluted edges and unground sharp pontils on the base showing they're hand blown.

We would call them Cranberry and Vaseline glass in Australia but the Americans call
Uranium glass Vaseline glass so that's confusing to everyone.

The silver stands were individually hand made from (unmarked) sterling silver
wire twisted and bent into shape and then the joints have been soldered.
I have taken photos with the stands cleaned and uncleaned as they show up
better in the photos when they were dark than when they were clean
(well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!).

They are in perfect condition with no damage or restoration.
Any photos that might look like they're showing damage are just
reflections from the flash of the camera or bubbles etc in the pink glass.
There is the odd tiny fleck of impurities in the glass as can be seen
in the photos i.e. a tiny black spot inside and a couple underneath one
and the other has a thin line of cranberry glass overflow underneath on the
white base which was also done at time of manufacture.

The glass bowls themselves measure approx. 8cm across (3 1/4 inches) and 4cm (1 1/2 inches)
at the highest part of the fluted edge.
Their sweet little stands measure 3.5cm (1 1/4inches) high.

Technically they are open salts but you could put any condiments
you like in them really.

$295.00 pair
