BEADED EVENING JACKET
This exquisite thing is an evening jacket
worn by a Victorian or Edwardian lady
(possibly in mourning as it is all black).
It is made of hundreds of black beads sewn
onto a black net base and the neck has then
been ‘boned’ so it stays up straight
around the neck.
It is fastened down the front with press
studs and a hook and eye at the
bottom which is trimmed in black satin.
It is small of course and measures 78cm
from sleeve to sleeve laid out as shown
in the photos and 39cm from top to bottom
Condition is good considering its age and
what it is.
There are a couple of small holes in the
netting but nothing too serious.
It is starting to fray a little at the edges
and there will be the odd missing bead and a
the odd bit unravelling etc but there a no large
sections of bead missing or large holes or damage.
